“ I'm Jacqueline, and I'm here to tell you that getting surgery at Shepard Eye Center has made a world of difference for my vision. Having cataracts made my everyday life more difficult, and blurry vision held me back from being able to fully appreciate the world around me. When I decided to get cataract surgery at Shepard Eye Center, Doctor Zarnegar and the friendly staff were able to answer all of my questions. Their eagerness to help put me at ease throughout the entire process. I was so impressed by everyone that I encountered at Shepard Eye Center! They were truly interested and cared about my well-being. The whole experience at Shepard Eye Center was convenient, and the cheerful staff was able to make going through the surgery a pleasure. After receiving cataract surgery, my eyes no longer have a yellow blur, and I'm amazed by the new clarity of my vision. Now, I am able to appreciate my surroundings in a whole new light. I am so grateful to doctor Zarnegar and the helpful, attentive staff at Shepard Eye Center. Because of them, my world is clear.”
“As a seamstress, my vision is very important to me. When my eyesight got so bad that I could barely thread a needle, I knew that something had to be done. So I visited Doctor Zarnegar and the staff at Shepard Eye Center. Everyone there was fabulous and made me feel comfortable and worry free. They explained all of the details about my cataract surgery with Restore Implants, and were so kind and caring throughout the entire procedure. Their support made going through the surgery a breeze! Now my vision is twenty – twenty, and threading a needle is a piece of cake! Before my surgery, playing golf was frustrating – I could barely see the ball. Now, when I play, I can hit the ball with ease! Getting cataract surgery with Restore Implants at Shepard Eye Center has really given me a renewed appreciation for my hobbies and my work. I'm Jane, and my vision is crystal clear thanks to Doctor Zarnegar and the terrific staff at Shepard Eye Center.”
“I felt I needed to show my appreciation to Dr. Bylsma and his wonderful staff for my new eyesight!
I started wearing glasses in the 6th grade and had 20/400 vision. I suffered with glasses until I was 16, and then I just didn't wear them at all due to the fact that my parents wouldn't let me have contacts. Mind you I am 55 years old now and I guess my parents just didn't understand. So for 5 excruciating years I didn't wear my glasses. Mind you I was driving like this! I thought all trees were just round green things. I couldn't imagine some people actually had perfect eyesight that they were born with!
At age 21 I got married for the first time and my husband bought me my first pair of contact lenses. Needless to say, TREES HAVE LEAVES! As time went on, I graduated to extended contacts and thought this was the best it was going to get. I really abused my eyes by leaving my contacts in for weeks at a time because I was so blind without them, I constantly was pouring saline in my eyes because of the dryness... they would fall out, get dirty and still my vision wasn't that great because of the dryness etc. I thought about LASIK when it first came out, but I had heard so many horror stories I just figured this is as good as it is gonna get.
When I hit age 40 I needed up close reading glasses. I despise glasses, hence the few years I went without! But once again I thought, I don't really have a choice.
Finally my optometrist at the time told me I wouldn't be able to wear contacts anymore eventually because I had abused the wearing time so much. So that is when I started doing some research online about the new computerized LASIK. I once again got horrified because it seems that the main stories they print are horror stories. And the possible side-effects scared me... halos at night, dryness... But I knew I would not go back to wearing glasses again.
I had heard good things about Shepard Eye Center so I made a consultation. I was so impressed with the office and staff and Dr. Bylsma, and they made me feel so comfortable answering all my questions. I was put through so many tests to make sure I could withstand the surgery. Remember, I am 55 years old! The tests were painless but a little frustrating since you can't blink during some of them! I was a blinker most of my life due to those dry contacts!
Once Dr. Bylsma determined I was a candidate, I was scheduled for the surgery. The worst part of that was I couldn't wear make-up for a couple of weeks and NO CONTACTS! So back to the glasses for a little while so my eyes could resume their normal shape.
I chose the new custom LASIK and opted for the Mono-vision since that is what I was wearing with my contacts. They make a correction in one eye for far-away and the other eye for up-close. I was nervous but excited and still had some doubts about the side effects that I had been reading about online. By the way, if I could give advice to anyone considering this surgery, PLEASE stay away from the internet forums... it seems people feed on mistakes that were made and not the successes.
The day of my surgery I was given something to make me relax and I will tell you IT WAS PAINLESS. And I couldn't believe how fast it was. I sat up afterwards and could see the clock for the first time in 40 years without glasses or contacts! And Dr. Bylsma warned me my vision would be blurry for a few days. But I could see! I went home with some protective eye-wear and went to sleep for the rest of the day. NO pain and I didn't have any redness either. By the next day I was seeing even clearer!
The moral of this story is, it was been over 8 months now since my surgery and I haven't had one side-effect! When I do get some dryness, it is usually from some medication I have taken and I use a few drops of lubricant that Dr. Bylsma recommended. When I went back for my checkup the next day my vision was 20/30!!! Two weeks later it was 20/20! After 8 months I am now 20/15 and I don't have to use my reading glasses either! That is a miracle at age 55! My night vision is perfect, no halos, just crisp, clear vision!
To let you know how good my vision is now, I was at my Doctor's office for a check-up and he had an eye chart of the wall and I told him I had had LASIK a few months back. I wondered if my vision was still as good. He asked me to read the bottom line and I rattled off something like "Dupont Manufacturing". He said, "What are you reading?" I told him he told me to read the bottom line. IT WAS THE MANUFACTURER OF THE CHART IN TEENY TINY BLACK LETTERS!!! He was amazed!
I am so happy now and I appreciate this new eyesight every single day! Dr. Bylsma was so wonderful and Malin, his assistant answered everything I asked. I am so thankful to everyone at Shepard Eye Center. Vision is precious and I will never take it for granted. Thank you to everyone!!! And YES, trees have separate leaves on them!!!”
“I have worn glasses my whole life, continually having to be concerned about eyeglass maintenance, location, and what I would do in a situation without my glasses. Also having to purchase new glasses every couple of years became very expensive. Doctors in the past have told me that I was not a good candidate for LASIK surgery and I refused to put contacts in my eyes. Dr. Goodman carefully checked my eyes, ensuring me that the surgery would go just fine and that I had nothing to worry about. As the surgery approached I became nervous. However, during the less than one hour surgery I experienced no pain at all. Immediately following the surgery, I was free from glasses and able to return to normal activities the very next day. My vision has improved greatly, and is better than when I wore corrective lenses. Not having to deal with dirty lenses or raindrops obstructing my vision and being able to see clearly without glasses is just amazing! I am also not able to wear cool non-prescription sunglasses. Having LASIK surgery was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. My whole family now wants to have corrective surgery on their eyes, and we will definitely be coming back to see the good folks at Shepard Eye Center. I would like to thank the incredible staff at Shepard Eye Center for providing knowledgeable service, contributing to my comfort level during this process. Dr. Goodman is a patient and thoughtful surgeon, explaining every step of the procedure in detail and treating my eyes as if they were his own.”
“Having the LASIK procedure was an excellent decision and getting the procedure done at Shepard Eye Center was as equally rewarding. It is amazing how a quick and simple procedure can produce such a drastic improvement not only in vision, but also in lifestyle. I especially appreciate this change in lifestyle when I'm swimming or driving because I don't have to worry about glasses, contact lenses, or prescription sunglasses.
I traveled from Los Angeles to have the procedure done at Shepard Eye Center given their great reputation, years of experience and innovation in eye care. The office took great care of me before, during and after the procedure and I was very impressed with Dr. Bylsma's knowledge and professional demeanor. I would recommend Shepard Eye Center to anyone near or far!”
“I had LASIK surgery at Shepard Eye Center with Dr. Goodman. LASIK surgery is the way to go! I wore glasses for more than 32 years. Just imagine the changes I've experienced! Swimming, sleeping, non-prescription sunglasses and the list goes on. I don't have to constantly clean, adjust, tighten screws, get new prescriptions, pick out new frames and change glasses when I'm outdoors. There is not a day that I look back and regret having LASIK surgery! Definitely the best investment that continues to pay back every second of the day.”
“I’m Elsie, and I first heard about Shepard Eye Center while I was a volunteer for Gen Span. By that time, I had been wearing bifocals for over 40 years. I was having a difficult time doing what I enjoy—sewing, knitting, reading, and driving. I went to Dr. Goodman at Shepard Eye Center to learn more about my options, and he recommended Cataract Surgery with Restore Lens Implants. After my surgery I don’t need my glasses for anything, even driving at night. I passed the vision test for my drivers license WITHOUT my glasses for the first time in 30 years. I can even thread a needle without my glasses. I’ve spoken to friends who have had cataract surgery with other centers, without the type of results I’ve had with dr. Goodman at Shepard Eye Center. At 86 years old, it is a real blessing to know I don’t have to worry about glasses, and if one surgery means I don’t have to worry about them for the rest of my life, I think that’s worth it. ”
“As an optometrist, vision and eye health has been my business. But when work is through, my love for bicycling really gets me going. For the past 30 years, my eyesight has been slowing me down. I was legally blind without glasses, and contacts made my eyes so irritated I could hardly ever wear them. So, I was stuck with my glasses for my daily bike rides. But after my custom LASIK procedure at Shepard Eye Center I don’t have to worry about wearing prescription glasses anymore. When the alarm rings in the morning, I can actually see the time without scrambling for my glasses. It took only a 15-minute procedure with Dr. Zarnegar, and I walked out the same day with crystal clear vision. I’m Dr. Michael Young - and thanks to custom LASIK at Shepard Eye Center, the road ahead is looking pretty clear. ”
“Traveling is my passion, and I have been exploring new locations for years. But, these new adventures have been blurry because of my poor eyesight. I had cataracts in each eye and my prescription was maxed out. The doctors at Shepard Eye center went over my options in detail so I felt comfortable about my decision. I had my Cataracts removed and opted for a RESTOR Lens implant that has allowed me to throw away my glasses. My vision is great and traveling is much easier without having to switch from sunglasses to glasses to read the map. After 23 years of inconvenience, two 15-minute procedures at Shepard Eye Center opened up a whole new world to me. It’s been a year and I don’t ever have to wear glasses. I’m Nancy- and thanks to the doctors at Shepard Eye Center, I can’t wait until my next trip. ”
“I’ve never met anyone who said they miss their glasses. That’s why I chose to see the doctors at Shepard Eye Center. My vision had deteriorated to the point where I couldn’t see anything without my glasses and it was starting to get in the way of the things I love, like reading and sewing. So I went in for free consultation and they found I had a cataract in each eye. Dr. Bylsma was able to remove my cataracts and correct my vision with ReSTOR implants. I just opened my eyes and could see everything. Now I’m back to reading and sewing without glasses and I can see better than ever. Its like my eyes are brand new, and I have the doctors at Shepard Eye Center to thank for it. I’m Sheila and life is so much nicer not being bothered by my glasses.”
“2 things have been a part of my life since age 9: soccer and glasses, which didn’t exactly mix. I would rather play on a blurry field than wear my glasses during the game. But now, after having custom LASIK at Shepard Eye Center, I don’t have to worry about that. I don’t have to worry about my glasses in the rain, or the glare when I drive at night. No more dry scratchy eyes from contacts either. And in the morning, when the alarm rings, I can actually see the time without scrambling for my glasses. It only took a 15 minute procedure to fix a challenge I’ve dealt with for 20 years. And honestly, I never thought I could afford LASIK, but the doctors at Shepard Eye Center made the financing work for me. I’m Mike – and my soccer field is finally crystal clear thanks to custom LASIK at Shepard Eye Center.”
