A popular treatment for wrinkles of the face is the use of fillers. In this simple office procedure, the wrinkles are “filled in” with small injections. The natural filler material is injected underneath the wrinkles to help lift up and smooth the skin.
Common wrinkle fillers that can be used include Restylane, JUVÉDERM, Radiesse, among others. The material is slowly absorbed by the body over many months or years and the injections will need to be repeated to maintain the effect.
The folds and lines around the nose and mouth are particularly well-suited for filler injections. The nasolabial folds and smile lines at the corners of the mouth are most often treated. Many patients also request that the lips be filled in to increase lip volume and add definition.
Sometimes the filler can be used on the top of the nose to even out the nasal bridge as non-surgical rhinoplasty. Fillers can be used to help with wrinkles and lines around the eyes and forehead.
Other treatments for wrinkles, or rhytids as your doctor may call them, include surgeries such as blepharoplasty or brow lift to remove some of the loose skin around the eyes. BOTOX injections are effective especially for wrinkles around the eyelid and forehead. Also, chemical peels can help tighten and rejuvenate the skin.
